Hey friends, this is Kenny Jahng with the Church Butler Lunch and Learn time. Today we’re going to talk about Facebook ads and a really neat feature that if you’re just getting started you can actually use to look at what other people are doing and learn from those that are a couple of steps ahead of you. It’s a really neat feature. It’s come out recently in the last several months through this whole push and initiative for Facebook to have much more transparency across their ecosystem. And so, I just wanted to share that with you.
So recently I had a friend of mine said, you got to look at this company, Prince of Grace. And some of the things that they’re doing in terms of merchandising for different churches, etc. Church communications and was not, you know, I can’t see the ad because they didn’t screenshot it, they never saved it and that they just assume that I would be able to look it up in my feed. I can’t do it in my feed.
But what you can do is you can go to the company website. We’re here at the website and let me just move this on the other side. And what you’ll see is, on the left hand side, there’s home, reviews, photos, etc. This is new little, I guess tab or feature called info and ads. And if you click on info and ads this gives you a secret back door that’s going to show a lot of things that you can use to learn once you start tracking and following some of the big guys, some of the successful people in your industry. This is just a random one. But if you actually see info and ads, and what it does is it shows up a section called active ads from this page. So Facebook is showing you the ads. This page is currently running to provide more transparency into advertising.
What’s funny is it does give that disclaimer offers and pricing may not apply to you, right? There’s targeting, they might be giving discounts to other demographics or other targeted users that you’re unaware of. Now, that’s all been exposed here. So, if you click, if you scroll down, you’ll see the different types of ads that this company is running. Oh, they’ve got some neat carousel ads. And so you can see what other people are doing in terms of their advertising. And so this is just a great way that you can actually take a look at some of the other companies in your space or not in your space. Even the brands that you find reputable, go to their page and look at the info and ad section and see what they’re doing with their ads. It’s a great way to do this. I would recommend that you basically schedule 15 minutes a day for the next two weeks and every day pick a couple of advertisers, look at their page, look at the ads of the running and try to figure out what they’re doing.
This here you can see there they’re actually trying to advertise a single product, right? Versus this carousel ad. They’re showing a single product, but the different permutations of it. And then they’re also doing another one where they’re showing a catalog of ads of different products across the spectrum. So they obviously are, and they’re doing a checkout code right there. Actually, promoting a coupon code in this ad, etc. So you’ll see all the different tactics that people are using, the ones that survive. If you follow an advertiser for weeks or months, you might see that the ads change and some might survive because they’re just going to keep on using the winners that go on and on and on. And so you understand some of the nuances of how people are using Facebook ad features. What’s the text on the buttons that they’re offering here?
It’s “Shop Now”. They have other offer buttons that you can use. This one says this ad includes an offer that is only available to the online selected by the advertiser. So this we know that this advertiser is using targeted messaging and giving them actual promotional value as they target and give them a specific offer. So there’s the different things that you can learn by reading into these different ads. Hope that helps. Hope that opens up a new door of education for you so that you can start to see the different variety of methods that people are using, the Facebook ads platform. And then you can start to adopt some of these ways that people are promoting their products and services online. And you can do the same thing if you’re a church, you can or nonprofit organization, you can look at other organizations and see how people are promoting events or promoting their page and their community.
Those are the types of things that you might want to look at. For instance, how are people advertising for Easter? So you might look at all the churches that you know that are larger or more sophisticated or a couple of steps ahead of you in terms of church communications and advertising and see what type of ads they’re running. Click through and see what type of landing pages and collateral that they’re putting on their website, what type of messaging they are, they’re putting out there to try to attract more people to their organization for attendance, for volunteering, for donations, etc. So hopefully that helps. The info and ads section is a relatively new in the last year or so that Facebook has added for more transparency and this is something that you can use to your advantage.
I’d love to hear your comments and feedback. What do you think about this? Did you know about this? Have you been looking at other people’s ads and seeing their behavior and learning from what they’ve done? What have you learned? So I’d love to hear all that. Put your questions and responses in the comments below, or direct message me. Always love the conversations here at Church Butler. And in the meantime, we’re going to move onto other platforms this next couple of episodes to show you the different ways of using digital media outside of Facebook because Facebook is the behemoth, but there are other places that you should be spending your time with and we’ll look at those types of outlets over the next several episodes of the Lunch and Learn. I’m Kenny Jahng. Thanks you so much for listening and watching here at Church Butler. Till next time. Remember, be social stay social.
